Red, White, and Green: Planning the Ultimate July 4th Garden Picnic
Independence Day is often synonymous with packed beaches, roaring fireworks, and bustling, high-energy block parties. But if your ideal holiday looks a little less chaotic and a lot more serene, we have the perfect alternative. This year, trade the crowded pavement for winding trails and celebrate the Fourth of July surrounded by the breathtaking, natural beauty of Cedar Lakes Woods and Gardens.
Whether you are looking to spend quality time with family, enjoy a quiet date, or simply reconnect with nature, a holiday picnic in the quarry is a spectacular way to celebrate. Here is your guide to planning the ultimate "Red, White, and Green" July 4th getaway.
1. Ditch the Crowds, Keep the View
While regular parks fill up fast on holiday weekends, our 20-acre botanical sanctuary offers a peaceful oasis. Imagine enjoying your holiday lunch overlooking cascading waterfalls, quiet koi ponds, and massive, vibrant green quarry walls.
Instead of fighting for a patch of sand at the beach, you can claim a spot at one of our many scenic overlooks or rest on a shaded bench tucked beneath a lush canopy. It’s a front-row seat to Florida's most unique landscape.
2. Fire Up the Grills
What is the Fourth of July without a little outdoor cooking? To help make your family gathering complete, we have grills available for visitor use on a first-come, first-served basis.
Bring along your favorite burgers, hot dogs, or veggie skewers and enjoy a classic holiday cookout with a view unlike any other. Just remember to bring your own grilling utensils and charcoal, and please ensure everything is completely extinguished before you head back out onto the trails.
3. Packing the Perfect Eco-Friendly Picnic
To keep our sanctuary pristine and safe for the local wildlife, we love seeing our guests practice sustainable picnicking! Here are a few tips for packing your basket:
Go Reusable: Swap out single-use plastics for reusable containers, cloth napkins, and durable water bottles.
Keep it Fresh & Local: Pack refreshing, hydrating summer treats like crisp Florida watermelon, fresh berries, and chilled lemonade to beat the mid-day heat.
Pack it In, Pack it Out: We work hard to keep the gardens beautiful for everyone. Please make sure all trash finds its way into appropriate receptacles or goes home with you.
4. Beat the Heat and Explore
The best way to experience the gardens in July is to arrive early! Come beat the peak afternoon sun by starting your visit when our gates open at 9:30 AM.
After you’ve enjoyed your lunch, take a leisurely stroll along the shady, lower quarry trails where the natural rock walls and dense greenery offer a cooler retreat. Keep your eyes peeled for our resident swans, rushing waterfalls, and the mid-summer butterflies fluttering through the blooms.
Plan Your Holiday Visit
We are open 7 days a week from 9:30 AM to 4:45 PM, including over the holiday weekend! Regular admission applies ($12 for adults, $7 for children ages 6–13, and free for members).
Pack your cooler, grab your sunscreen, and come celebrate a peaceful, green Independence Day with us. We can’t wait to see you in the quarry!
