The Gardens host a variety of migratory birds including waterfowl each year. Some stay to breed, and some just to rest and eat their fill before going on to their destinations. Includes a variety of
ducks, wood ducks, egrets, Canadian geese, etc. They may be viewed seasonally from Lookout Point that is located on the exit road.
A resident bird, like the Great Blue Heron depicted, is one that stays in the region year round. In colder climates, they do migrate. Herons are occasionally seen in one of the out-lying Garden lakes where they hunt for small fish, insects, snails and small invertebrates and where it is a little more private
Two whispering swans, Gwendolyn and Olivia, grace our central lake. They are transplants, and live here year round. Sometimes called "mute swans", they do vocalize quietly. They can live for 20-30 years. They can be aggressive, and have been known to chase away some of the migratory ducks who land in the lake.
